The 'Child' magazines are published 11 times a year. The 'Child'
websites are updated daily. For both, we are looking for fine writing
that will provoke, entertain and enlighten our readership of parents
and others involved in the care of children aged 0-14. Our submission
guidelines are as follows.
When we review articles for publication, we ask ourselves three questions: Is this compelling? Does this reflect the experience of modern parenting? Does this offer something unique? Worthy content is not enough. The topic may interest us, but if we're not compelled to read past the first paragraph, we're not going to publish the piece. The style of the writing is very important. We aim to publish material that describes or explores the experience of parenting rather than advising parents of best practice. Articles on current issues in parenting need to be well-written, well-researched pieces that cast new light on a topic, provoke thought and inspire parents to further investigate the issue. Essentially, we are not interested in material that tells parents what to do or how to do it. The word "should" sends us into spasm. We prefer not to include 'top tips' or 'how to' boxes. We do, however, include lists of resources. Please keep in mind that our articles appear in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide and Perth. Include separate resource lists for each city. Reference books must be currently available in Australian bookstores. With your submission, please include references for the claims made in your article and contact details for people quoted in your article (please - no 'composite' individuals or families). Please do not represent yourself as a writer for Copeland Publishing without prior consent from the Group Editor. We do not publish unsolicited book/movie/game reviews, poetry or fiction; please do not submit works in these genres. Nor do we publish articles about a particular event, person, product or service. There are opportunities for promotion of events, products and services through our calendars, resource guides and through advertising. Feature length ranges from 800 words to 2,400 words; payment is negotiated on acceptance. On publication you will receive a copy of the papers your story has gone into and a prompt to invoice. The accounts department will forward payment approximately 50 days after publication. We prefer submissions by email in Microsoft Word, without design elements. Please put the title of the article in the 'subject' line of the email and label the file with the title of the article. We suggest you familiarise yourself with our magazine before submitting an article. The Child magazines are distributed through schools, preschools, day-care centres, doctors' offices and family-friendly businesses. Please be patient: a response time of eight to twelve weeks is usual. You can submit your material directly through this website. You are required to fill out the fields below and to upload your document. It is required that the document be a word (.doc) document.
