The Federal Government has released the first round of childcare-centre ratings on its MyChild website, allowing parents to see how services match up against the new National Quality Standards for early education.
Centres are rated in areas such as educational program and practice, children's health and safety, physical environment, staffing arrangements and relationships with children. An overall rating is also given.
The website includes ratings for about 15 per cent of Australia's approved childcare centres, however Early Childhood and Child Care Minister Kate Ellis says many more centres will be assessed, and their ratings published, over the next year.
